Surplus lines access

Surplus lines markets and programs, in one place

Finding the market is the slow part of placing a difficult risk. This is the shortcut.

Submit a risk

What makes a submission get quoted

Most declines are incomplete submissions, not bad risks.

Surplus lines questions

What is the difference between admitted and surplus lines?

Admitted carriers are state-licensed and backed by a guaranty fund. Surplus lines carriers are not, which is why they can write risks the admitted market will not.

Do surplus lines policies have different rules?

Yes. Premium taxes are usually paid by the insured, and the policy may have different cancellation and nonrenewal provisions.

How long does a surplus lines quote take?

For a complete submission, usually one to three days. Incomplete submissions can take much longer than the quote itself would have.

How a submission moves

  1. You send the application, loss runs and requirements.
  2. We confirm which programs have appetite for the class and state.
  3. The submission goes to the markets that will actually look at it.
  4. Quotes come back with terms, and binding happens where authority applies.
